Former state Sen. Polly Baca sent Gov. Bill Ritter a letter this week asking to serve the remaining two years of Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar’s term if Salazar is confirmed as Interior secretary.
Baca, 67, a Democrat from Denver, reminded Ritter that if she were appointed, Colorado would be the first state to send a Hispanic woman to the Senate. Baca was a vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Convention in Denver last summer.
Ritter hasn’t indicated when he’ll make his pick. The Associated Press
