DENVER—A subsidiary of the Denver-based Gates Corp. says it will close one facility in Ontario.
Gates Canada Inc. said Monday that it will transfer a portion of its operations in London, Ontario, to Windsor, Ontario, by the end of the second quarter. It will be shut down by the end of the year after outstanding orders are filled.
The plant in London employs 179 people and manufactures power transmissions. Gates blamed the difficult economic climate for the closure citing a decline in sales, pricing pressures and a rise in the cost of raw materials.
Gates manufactures industrial and automotive products such as belts and hoses in more than 25 countries. The company is part of the British auto parts maker Tomkins PLC, which has more than 34,000 employees worldwide.
