WASHINGTON — Two African-American women over 100 years old are facing a huge new challenge: attending the inauguration of Barack Obama.
It may sound crazy to bring a centenarian to visit the capital, let alone to an outdoors all-day affair with a crowd of millions and temperatures expected to be in the 30s, but Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., isn’t about to take back the ticket he gave to 106-year-old Rachel Tucker.
The office of Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has been trying to make accommodations after inviting Ella Mae Johnson, a 105-year-old retired social worker.
Rob Lucarelli, the communications director for the Northeast Ohio retirement community where Johnson lives, says despite knowing the hazards, she insists on seeing Obama sworn in. Politico
