WASHINGTON — The Bahamas government has created a new marine reserve in North Bimini, preserving a critical mangrove habitat and shark nursery.

The mangroves, which will now enjoy protection from fishing and other “extractive activities,” are home to endangered species such as the Nassau grouper and Bimini boa as well as a vibrant nursery for lemon sharks.
