A body found this week in a Broomfield drainage ditch was that of a 13-year-old girl who was reported as an endangered runaway in October.
Kelsey Shannon’s badly decomposed body was discovered Wednesday in the 13700 block of Lowell Boulevard, according to police.
Kelsey was reported missing Oct. 14.
She had a disagreement with her parents about her friends and told them she was going out for a walk, according to a Broomfield police report. She was wearing blue jeans, a grey sweater and Ugg boots at the time.
Kelsey was last seen at a convenience store at 5:15 p.m. that day.
Her body was found less than one mile from her parents’ home.
The Adams County coroner continues to investigate the cause of death.
Speaking to reporters this afternoon on her parents’ porch, Kelsey’s sister, Angela Horne, said, “Our family has lost a beautiful little girl.”
She said her sister was “spirited, loving and full of fun.”
“Kelsey is a 13-year-old girl who one evening asked her mom for her favorite dinner, went out for a walk by the golf course and never had a chance to return home,” she said,” Horne said.
