BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Broomfield police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of a 13-year-old girl whose body was found this week.
Police say Alexander “Alex” Paul Pacheco was arrested around 1 a.m. Saturday in Lakewood in connection with the death of Kelsey Shannon. Her decomposed body was found in a drainage ditch Wednesday. She had been reported as a runaway Oct. 14.
Police say Pacheco and Kelsey were acquaintances.
Kelsey’s family released a statement Saturday saying: “There continue to be many unanswered questions about Kelsey’s death. As we await answers, we profoundly grieve over the loss of this precious member of our family who did not run away, but rather was taken away prematurely from us.”
