Boulder police have linked a Friday crime spree in Boulder and Longmont to a man found shot to death on a neighborhood street that night.
William Dwayne Andrews, 47, of Boulder was shot twice in the chest and once in the face at close range with a shotgun about 8 p.m. in the 1200 block of Sumac Avenue, police had previously said.
Police issued a statement Monday saying the shooting was “related to a disagreement between known associates.”
Andrews had no connection to the neighborhood where he was found, but he was linked to armed menacing cases in Longmont and Boulder, police said.
Police arrested Joseph Abeyta, 41, on Saturday in the Longmont case. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. Abeyta and another man were at a motorhome when one allegedly pointed a shotgun at a woman’s head before firing a shot in the air and leaving, police said.
Details of the Boulder case were not released.
Police said Monday Abeyta “has knowledge of or involvement in the death of his associate, Andrews.”
Abeyta has not yet been charged in Andrews’ death, “but the investigation is moving rapidly,” according to the statement.
Investigators are looking for the murder weapon, a black 12-gauge shotgun with a rear pistol grip, as well as a gray 1993 four-door Buick sedan registered to Abeyta’s mother. Witnesses saw a similar vehicle leaving the street where Andrews was found shot to death, police said.
