The driver of 2005 Audi was killed today after his vehicle skidded out of control on a curve at Highway 83 and East Mississippi Street and struck another car.
The driver was identified as Dane Delveccio, 25, of Denver.
According to Trooper Ryan Sullivan of the Colorado State Patrol, Delveccio was driving around the curve about 12:23 a.m., when he lost control, crossed into on coming lanes of traffic where he struck a green 1999 Honda Passport on the left rear side.
The Audi then went off the east side of the road, rolling on to its top and sliding south into two newspaper boxes, a retaining wall and a tree, before stopping.
Delveccio, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Denver Health Medical Center where he later died.
Although alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors, Sullivan said driving too fast for the existing conditions is suspected as a contributing factor.
The driver of the Honda, Mary Gallagher, 46, of Denver, was taken to Rose Medical Center with minor injuries.
A Chevrolet Silverado ran over bricks from the retaining wall that were thrown into the street because of the accident. However, the driver, Sean Forrey, 20, of Concord, Calif., was not injured. His passenger, Dustin Riley, 20, of Oxward, Calif., also was not injured, according to Sullivan.
At the time of the accident, the road was wet with icy spots.
