PUEBLO, COLO. — Police say a woman driving her son and nephew was drunk Sunday when she flipped the car on Interstate 25, killing the 14-year-old nephew.
Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer says the teenager, Elias Castro, was ejected from the 1989 Honda Accord and died at the scene at about 1 p.m. The driver was the boy’s aunt, Dawn Castro.
She was also ejected but survived.
Also injured in the one-car rollover wreck were the driver’s 5-year-old son and an unidentified male in the back seat.
Sgt. Dan Rutherford of the Pueblo Police Department says the driver’s blood-alcohol level was almost twice the state’s legal limit. She is charged vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.
