The Colorado State Fair general manager says a new state audit is the best the fair has had in 12 years, during which the fair has struggled with budget shortfalls.
Manager Chris Wiseman says the audit released Monday is the first in a while that hasn’t recommended changes in accounting and other procedures. The one suggestion was that the state fair, held each summer in Pueblo, refine its strategies and pricing policies and become more efficient to stem losses.
The state has subsidized the fair to help it pay for an events center and to cover losses. The fair was $1.9 million in the black for the fiscal year that ended June 30 after outside contributions were considered.
