GRAND ISLE, Vt. — A Lake Champlain ferry crashed into the pilings near its dock on the Vermont shore Friday, injuring at least three people. Sgt. Tara Thomas, a spokeswoman for the Vermont State Police, said the Cumberland’s engines had shut down because of mechanical failure.
