The Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, convinced that a 16-year-old female runaway was with a 38-year-old Lamar man, searched his apartment twice before finding the girl along with a secret compartment in which she would hide.
Sheriff Jim Faull said an informant told him recently that a runaway from the Rocky Ford area was hiding in Michael Dye’s apartment on Elm Street.
They found nothing on the first visit, but the sheriff said he was convinced she was there, so he sought a search warrant for the apartment. Wednesday afternoon, while Dye was out driving his delivery truck, deputies entered the apartment and found the girl in the bathtub.
They also found a hidden compartment, a 3-foot by 2.5-foot by 10-foot compartment in a crawlspace that was hidden by a fake wall in the living room.
