DENVER—The Colorado Senate is getting ready to take another vote on a plan to raise vehicle registration fees to pay for road and bridge repairs.
The Senate gave initial approval to the bill late Wednesday but it must pass another vote before it can move to the House. That vote is expected Thursday.
The measure would tack on extra fees to the registration of all vehicles in the state, from scooters to semitrailers. For the owners of passenger cars and many SUVs, it would mean an extra $32 this year and $41 next year.
The bill would also raise trucking fees and impose a $2 daily fee on car rentals. It would allow tolling on existing highways if surrounding communities support it.
The package would raise about $250 million a year.
