A 16-year-old who has been accused of attacking other women in the same southeast Denver area was charged Monday with raping a 40-year-old woman and beating her with a baseball bat last month.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey charged Shakiel Madden-Vaughn with attempted first-degree murder, sexual assault, first-degree assault and aggravated robbery. He is being charged as an adult.

Police said Madden-Vaughn followed the woman from a light-rail station, attacking her in the 9000 block of East Mansfield Avenue and stealing her purse. Madden-Vaughn already faced charges he molested a 12-year-old girl and hit a 69-year-old woman in the head with a brick the week before the 40-year-old woman was raped, beaten and robbed in the same area. He is being held without bond in the Denver County Jail.
