The valentine PR machine went into overdrive last week, rolling out 9-year-old author Alec Greven from Castle Rock, along with his hit book “How to Talk to Girls.”
He was on “The Morning Show With Mike and Juliet” and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” sitting next to Bill Cosby and making a lot more sense.
But here’s the headline.
Twentieth Century Fox plans to turn Greven’s slim tome into a movie.
Hey, Hollywood turned a line from the TV series “Sex and the City” (“He’s just not that into you”) into a movie, so why not a movie from a 9-year-old’s 46-page advice book?
It’s to be directed by Shawn Levy, the guy who helmed “Night at the Museum” and “The Pink Panther.”
I don’t know how much the studio paid for the movie rights, but Alec sold the book at a book fair at his school for $3.
Scenes in the movie could include these arcs: “Comb your hair and don’t wear sweats. . . . Control your hyperness and cut down on sugar if necessary. . . . A crush is like a love disease that can drive you mad. . . . It is easy to spot pretty girls because they have big earrings, fancy dresses and all the jewelry but are like cars that need a lot of oil. . . . It can be very hard to get a girl to like you. Sometimes it takes years! Whatever happens, just don’t act desperate.”
That’s a wrap.
Mardi party
. Fat Tuesday arrives Feb. 24 — and the town party begins at 4 p.m. at Wazee Supper Club, with a sacrificial keg of Big Easy Black Voodoo Lager. Partiers carry and roll the keg to Wynkoop Brewing Co., then push in the bung, and it pretty much explodes all over the place. The fun starts with the Kent School R&B Ensemble, the O-Tones eight-piece brass band and krewes from the Wyn- koop bar family.
Oscar
. Denver throws two big Oscar parties Sunday night. The Denver Film Society hosts its annual Party With Oscar, which is actually sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. You can watch the ABC show in high def on big screens or get into the rocker theme, with a band and DJs. Tix are $45 ($20 if you arrive on a bicycle). Bill Clarke emcees. Check it out at .
The Denver School of the Arts hosts a “family friendly” Oscar party dubbed “A Night With the Stars.” Now in its fourth year, the kids glam up the school, put on their formal wear and drink the bubbly (ginger ale). Tix are $11 at the door.
Mary Jane Furguson from Ken Caryl Valley is actually going to the Oscars. She was one of 300 people to win the Red Carpet Bleacher Lottery, which means that she and her three sisters will fly out to Hollywood and get guaranteed seats in the bleachers. It makes for a long day, as they get seated in time for a Krispy Kreme breakfast, a Subway lunch — and wait hours until the show begins at 5:30 p.m. I’d rather stay home.
City spirit
. Cold Stone Creamery is shuttered at 2500 E. Second Ave., a notice on the door demanding $21,481.77 in back rent. . . . The Diana Price Fish Foundation, which for 19 years provided social and cultural outlets to cancer patients and hosted the wildly successful “Late Nite” parties, shut down Dec. 31. . . . Sez who: “Sometimes, you get a girl to like you, then she ditches you. Life is hard, move on!” — Alec Greven
