Six Colorado chefs and restaurateurs have made the first cut for the 2009 James Beard Foundation Awards. Finalists will be named March 23 and winners revealed at a May 4 dinner in New York.

Headed to the next round are: Frank Bonanno, operator of Mizuna, Luca D’Italia and Osteria Marco restaurants in Denver in the outstanding restaurateur category; and Yasmin Lozada-Hissom of Duo in Denver, outstanding pastry chef. In the best chef category: Mark Fisch er, Restaurant Six89, Carbondale; Ryan Hardy, Montag na, Aspen; Kelly Liken, Kelly Liken, Vail; and Alex Seidel, Fruition Restaurant, Denver.
