Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins has hired former Illinois State coach Denver Johnson to be the Buffaloes’ offensive line coach, the Bloomington (Ill.) Pantagraph reported Tuesday.

An announcement from CU is planned for Wednesday, the paper said.

Johnson, 50, compiled a 69-66 record over 12 years as a college head coach. Nine of those seasons were with Illinois State, three at Murray State. He retired as Illinois State coach at the end of last season after going 48-54 at the school.

Johnson is a former lineman at Tulsa and in the NFL. He last had an assistant coaching job in 1996, at Oklahoma.
