DENVER—Authorities say a Denver man faces charges in the Feb. 11 death of his 5-month-old daughter.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said Wednesday that 26-year-old Keith Weatherspoon is in custody on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. He is being held without bail in the Denver County Jail.

Prosecutors allege that Weatherspoon was caring for his daughter Mahogany in their home while his wife was at work. They say he couldn’t get the child to stop crying so he covered her head with a pillow, causing her death.

Weatherspoon denied suffocating the girl in court records. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Friday.
