DENVER—More than 100 dogs have been transferred to facilities in Colorado Springs and Pueblo after a licensed dog breeder near Monte Vista notified the state that she was having to go out of business.
Kate Anderson of the state’s pet animal care facilities program says the woman had been licensed since 1995 but had changes in her life that made it necessary for her to quit business. Anderson did not elaborate.
Anderson, a veterinarian, examined the dogs with state technicians and found the majority of them in good health. Most of the dogs are Pomeranians and Chihuahuas.
Anderson says the dogs should make great pets. They were transferred to Pueblo Animal Services in Pueblo and to Pikes Peak Humane Society in Colorado Springs.
The breeder’s name wasn’t released.
