DENVER—Authorities say a man is in custody on felony charges in a September 1995 sexual assault in Lakewood.
The Jefferson County district attorney’s office says 54-year-old Jimmy Gerald Ruybal was charged Tuesday with sexual assault, kidnapping and using a weapon.
Prosecutors say he met a 15-year-old girl at a gas station and offered her a ride. They say he then sexually assaulted her at knifepoint before she jumped from the moving car and ran for help.
District attorney spokeswoman Pam Russell says old evidence in conjunction with new technology led to Ruybal’s arrest. She didn’t know if he had an attorney.
Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brandie Vansickle says Ruybal was convicted of marijuana possession in October in Denver.
He is being held at the Jefferson County jail on $1 million bond.
