Denver has a 40 percent chance of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Less than half an inch of accumulation is expected, with an afternoon high of 40 degrees in the metro region, according to forecasters.

Warm weather returns to the metro region on Saturday when highs are expected to reach 53 degrees under sunny skies.

The high in Denver Sunday is expected to reach 65 degrees, with daily highs in the 60s all next week.

A Pacific storm is expected to drop heavy snow in the high country today, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. in areas above 9,000 feet in Jackson, Grand, Boulder, Clear Creek, Summit and Park counties, the Weather Service stated.

Motorists are being warned of blowing snow, freezing drizzle, limited visibility and slippery roads today.

With fresh powder at several resorts in Grand and Summit counties, nice weather will greet skiers and snowboarders Saturday and Sunday, the Weather Service predicts.

A high of 45 degrees is expected in Aspen and 36 in Steamboat Springs Saturday.

Avalanche risk is “considerable” in the backcountry near Salida, Leadville, Glenwood Springs, Winter Park, Eldora, Estes Park and Steamboat Springs, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center in Boulder.

The risk is “moderate” around Crested Butte, Grand Mesa, Telluride, Ouray, Silverton and Pagosa Springs, according to the statewide monitoring group.
