A boy hit by a pickup truck in Lakewood has been transferred to Children’s Hospital.

The accident happened at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Simms Street, said Steve Davis, a Lakewood Police Department spokesman.

The 9-year-old was crossing Colfax when he darted away from two adults who were with him, Davis said.

The boy was hit by a truck in the westbound lanes of Colfax. An RTD bus, also westbound and turning north onto Simms, likely hampered views of the boy and the driver.

The truck driver, who was not identified, had a green light. The accident is under investigation, although the driver likely was not at fault, Davis said.

The boy was crossing against a pedestrian red light.

He was initially taken to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital and was transferred to Children’s, Davis said.

Details on his condition were not available.
