DENVER—Colorado lawmakers are considering about 100 new rules governing the state’s oil and gas industry.
The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Legal Services scheduled a hearing for Friday.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission drafted the rules after meetings across the state to get recommendations from local residents.
The Legislature ordered the revision to give more weight to public health, property rights and the environment. The Legislature must approve the new rules before they can go into effect.
Opponents say the rules could strangle the state’s oil and gas industry, which has fallen off sharply with the slump in prices.
Supporters say the rules are needed to protect Colorado’s environment and the tourism industry.
