A private soccer coach who gave lessons to a teenager in 2005 and 2006 has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting the child.
Delbert Wallace Stiewert, 40, was arrested Monday by detectives from the Lakewood Police Department, according to department spokesman Steve Davis.
Stiewert was taken into custody after investigators were told that Stiewert had an inappropriate sexual relationship with the student.
At the time of the alleged assaults, the child was 13 and 14 years old. She is now 17.
Although the girl did not live in Lakewood, the assaults took place there at Stiewert’s home, said Davis.
Stiewert had been contracted to provide private soccer lessons to the girl.
Stiewert more recently worked for the Centennial-based soccer organization Real Colorado, which sent a statement to parents Tuesday saying the alleged conduct occured before Stiewert joined the organization.
“Mr. Stiewert was immediately suspended by Real Colorado upon learning of the investigation. This situation profoundly affects each of us as parents and staff.”
The statement added, “The Board and staff of Real Colorado share your deep concern and will continue to dedicate ourselves to earning your trust.”
Stiewert is being held in the Jefferson County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
He is being held for investigation of “sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust” and for allegedly engaging in a pattern of sexual assault over a period of time.
Detectives are asking that anyone with information regarding Stiewert contact detectives at 303-987-7222.
