Les Claypool harbors the same disdain for convention that a 6-year-old might for steamed broccoli, but the virtuoso bassist, Primus leader and all-around nutjob has aestheticized his eccentricity into a raving fan base. Before the Tuesday release of new album “Of Fungi and Foe,” Claypool brings his Oddity Faire tour to the Fillmore on Saturday, with Yard Dogs Road Show, Saul Williams and Secret Chiefs 3. 1510 Clarkson St. $29.50-$32.
Bad Weather California sounds considerably mellower on its new album “Young Punks” than at its fiery live shows, but the disc is still an excellent document of the Denver band’s Dylanesque indie-folk and loose Americana. BWC kicks off an 11-date regional tour behind the album Saturday at the Hi-Dive with LoveLikeFire, Pink Hawks and Pacific Pride. 7 S. Broadway. $6. hi-dive.com
Akron Family tries too hard to sound experimental when really the band should just embrace its indie-pop bent, which admittedly detours into psych-folk deconstruction and pseudo-jams at times. Perplexing? Sure, but fun to watch live. Tuesday at the Oriental with Denver indie acts Young Coyotes and Pee Pee. 4335 W. 44th Ave. $12-$14. theorientaltheater.cam
