DENVER—The Colorado Department of Transportation is seeking bids from contractors for the state’s first road projects funded by federal stimulus money.
Gov. Bill Ritter and CDOT said Thursday contractors will have up to four weeks to submit bids for six projects—five for repaving and maintenance and one for bridge replacement—totaling $35 million.
The projects benefit highways in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Jefferson and Summit counties. Construction is expected to begin in late May or early June.
CDOT Executive Director Russ George says these are the first of many projects that will be advertised over the next few weeks as Colorado figures out how to spend more than $500 million of federal money it will get for transportation and transit.
