ARVADA — Kenai is a 14-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog mix and is a new recipient of the American Human Association’s Golden Paw Award.
On Wednesday, Kenai donned a gold medal around her neck and was getting plenty of petting from her owners Todd Smarr and Michelle Sewald.
They’ve always had a high level of appreciation of their dog, but after a recent incident at a vacation home near Newcastle, there’s more love to go around.
“We’ve always given her unconditional love and she’s paid us back in a big way,” Sewald said.
