Investigators have found human remains 30 miles from Moab, Utah in an area that has been linked to suspected serial killer Scott Kimball, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the case.

While Kimball has been in custody on theft and forgery charges in Colorado, authorities have been looking for bones and evidence in the disappearances of Kaysi McLeod, Jennifer Marcum, Kimball’s uncle Terry Kimball and Leann Emry.

Only remains of McLeod, 19, who was missing for five years, have been found, in rural Jackson County.

Kimball has not been charged in any homicide cases.

Searchers in Utah found the remains on Wednesday.

Grand County Sheriff James Nyland told the Salt Lake Tribune that a Colorado man claims to have taken two women into Utah about six years ago and murdered them in the rugged terrain near the border of the two states.

A source with knowledge of the case told the Denver Post that authorities had been to the area before with Kimball, who is reportedly helping agents and police locate victims.

“We don’t know for sure who the bones belong to,” Nyland said.

Nyland said FBI agents and other investigators are still at the scene looking for more remains or clues.

Nyland said one victim is thought to be a woman whose car was found abandoned in 2003 near Harley Dome, on Interstate 70 a few miles from Colorado. That’s near where Emry was last spotted.

Nyland’s office learned of the possible murders about six months ago, he said, when the FBI called saying they had information implicating a man in killings.
