LINCOLN, Neb.—Austin Kaczor scored 34 points and Ewing came from behind in the second half to defeat Hayes Center 65-50 in the Class D2 semifinals at the boys state tournament Friday.
The Tigers (25-1) trailed 21-12 after the first quarter and 29-26 at half. But Kaczor scored nine points in the third quarter as Ewing went ahead 46-43.
Kaczor, who scored 33 points in a first-round win over Hampton, has 67 points in two tournament games. He would need 32 points in the final against Sterling (21-4) on Saturday to break the D2 tournament record of 98 by Filley’s Anthony Harms in 1998.
Brian Christner had 13 points, Matt Goal 11 and Keifer Messersmith 10 for Hayes Center (21-3).
Ewing already has won state titles in football, volleyball and girls basketball this academic year.
