A teenager died Sunday in a rollover crash in Weld County that is being investigated as an alcohol-related vehicular homicide.
Abdiel Morales-Sanchez, 15, of Greeley was thrown from a 2001 Volkswagen VR6 after the car rolled at about 8:40 p.m. on Weld County Road 53 just south of County Road 58, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The Volkswagen, driven by Jorge A. Medrano-Bustamante, 29, of Greeley, rolled one time and hit a utility pole on the passenger side.
Medrano-Bustamante suffered “moderate” injuries and was taken to the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
He faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, child abuse resulting in death and DUI, the State Patrol said.
A second passenger in the car, Greeley resident Jose V. Medrano-Frias, 18, suffered “serious” injuries and also was taken to North Colorado Medical Center.
Additional details on their conditions and injuries were not available.
Morales-Sanchez was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital in Aurora.
