AURORA, Colo.—A judge has ruled that a man accused of fatally shooting a code enforcement officer in the Denver suburb of Aurora is competent to stand trial.

Twenty-two-year-old Harry Denard Williams appeared in Adams County Court on Tuesday for a competency review hearing. A judge determined he was fit for trial and set an April 10 trial date.

Williams is accused of shooting 40-year-old Rodney Morales on Nov. 13 while Morales was doing a routine inspection at an apartment complex.

Police searched a 20-block area but didn’t find the shooter. The next day, they identified Williams as a suspect and tracked him to a home in northeast Denver’s Montbello neighborhood. Williams surrendered after a standoff that lasted hours.

Police have not said what led them to Williams, and court records in the case are sealed.
