WASHINGTON — Some Chinese Muslim detainees at Guantanamo Bay could possibly be released in the U.S., Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday.

During an interview, Holder was asked whether members of a group of Uighurs at the U.S. military detention facility in Cuba could be released on American soil.

“We’re trying to come up with places for them,” Holder said. He added later: “The possibility exists.”

A federal judge in October ordered that the 17 men — who were cleared for release but fear being tortured if they are returned to China — be allowed to enter the U.S. A federal appeals court, however, overruled that decision.
