Denver cyclists and other users of the Cherry Creek bike path may be in for an inconvenient ride heading into spring.

Major sewer-line work along Speer Boulevard will close the bike ramp at the intersection of University Boulevard and Cherry Creek Drive North, including the underpass that runs beneath University.

Bicyclists will instead have to cross over using the crosswalk and traffic signals.

The Metro Wastewater Reclamation District already has begun to set up equipment for this first section of the project near the Cherry Creek mall. From there, crews will work their way west to Wewatta Street near the Pepsi Center.

Metro Wastewater spokesman Steve Frank said the worst impact on the underpass will last until May 1, though the district is still working out the details. He said news advisories will be released as the work progresses. “There’s no such thing as a time where you won’t interfere with anybody,” Frank said.

The project should be complete by October.
