VAIL, Colo.—More than 30 current and former Vail 911 workers will get a total of about $30,000 in back pay following a federal audit.
The audit by the U.S. Department of Labor showed that dispatchers at the Public Safety Communication Center and employees of the Police Records Division employees were arriving a few minutes early for their shifts so they could clock in and be ready to go.
Krista Miller, Vail human resources manager, says the minutes were adding up and resulting in unpaid overtime.
Town officials say Vail will give $29,374 in back pay to 19 current employees and 14 former employees over two years. The money will come from the town’s supplemental budget.
The town plans to adjust its dispatcher schedules, possibly moving start times back a few minutes to accommodate shift changes.
