DENVER—Colorado’s senators are joining the effort to put a new veterans’ cemetery in El Paso County.
The proposed veterans cemetery near Pikes Peak has long been pushed by Colorado veterans groups who say there are many vets around Colorado Springs and southern Colorado.
The idea was first put forward more than a decade ago, but Congress has yet to approve it.
Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet says he will announce Wednesday morning that he will introduce a bill with Democratic Sen. Mark Udall to establish the cemetery.
Democratic Rep. John Salazar introduced a companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives in January to create the Pikes Peak State Veterans Cemetery.
