The unusually dry winter along the Front Range has sparked fire restrictions in Douglas County.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Commissioners on Tuesday enacted an ordinance restricting “open fires and open burning” in unincorporated areas of the county.
“Stage 1” fire restrictions are in effect and prohibit “open burning of any kind” and the “use and sale of fireworks,” the county announced in a media release.
The use of backyard gas grills and small fires in developed picnic or camping sites in contained permanent fire pits or fire grates are permissible.
“We remind everyone to use caution starting and extinguishing allowable campfires, disposing of lighted materials such as cigarettes, and other activities that involve the use of fire or sparks,” the county release said.
