MONTROSE, Colo.—A man accused in the death of a Montrose woman whose remains were found buried at a rock quarry has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Lionel Lopez pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of accessory to first-degree murder in the 2003 death of 47-year-old Irene Trujillo.
Trujillo’s remains were found a few months later at a rock quarry she owned with her estranged husband. Her body had been dismembered, burned and left in a hole encased in concrete.
An autopsy revealed she was shot in the head.
Lopez had been an employee of Montrose Stone Inc., and was accused of stealing a television and other items from her home after she disappeared.
Montrose County District Attorney Myrl Serra says the investigation into Trujillo’s death remains open.
