STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — As many as 30 Routt County employees could lose their jobs to cover a projected budget shortfall of nearly $5 million.
County officials met Friday to discuss ways to close the funding gap. Options mentioned were cutting the overtime budget, a 10 percent wage cut, employee furloughs and layoffs.
County Manager Tom Sullivan told county officials earlier this month that the projected shortfall had grown to $4.9 million from $2.7 million. He said layoffs were a possibility by late spring.
County Commissioner Diane Mitsch Bush said she wants to see what the March tax revenue is before any employees are laid off.
