MINNEAPOLIS — Travelers walking into Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Tuesday saw the Delta Air Lines name splashed across a terminal that was once dominated by Northwest Airlines.
Delta Air Lines Inc. bought Northwest last year and is phasing out the Northwest name. That change is especially noticeable at the Twin Cities airport, where Northwest roots dated back to a government airmail contract in 1926. On Monday night, crews removed the old Northwest signs that once lined the wide ticketing level nearly wall to wall and replaced them with Delta signs.
The visual change masks a lot of remaining behind-the- scenes work as Delta absorbs Northwest.
While travelers stepped up to counters under Delta signs, the self-service check-in computers asked them to choose whether they had purchased a Delta or Northwest ticket because the two carriers still use separate software. The Associated Press
