Elton John skipping Denver? How dare he! The 62-year-old piano-pop singer hasn’t visited the Mile High City since 2005 and doesn’t plan to this weekend, but he’ll play a Matthew Shepard Foundation benefit at the University of Wyoming’s Arena Auditorium in Laramie (today) and Colorado Springs’ World Arena (Saturday). Don’t fret, though: A regional loop means John may come through Denver soon. $35-$127. ,
The Hollyfelds will release their latest disc of traditional-flavored country at the appropriately retro Skylark Lounge tonight with GT & the Sidewinders ($5). Local music lovers can also catch dance-punks the Photo Atlas and anthemic rockers the Still City at the launch party for Denver digital music startup max3 on Thursday ($8) at the Marquis Theater. ,
Bonnie “Prince” Billy, a.k.a. indie-folk chameleon Will Oldham, is a riveting performer who’s leading a packed, worthy lineup at the Bluebird Theater next week. Other than Oldham’s Monday set, Scottish buzz bands Los Campesinos! (Tuesday) and Glasvegas (Thursday) and U.K. rockers the Ting Tings (Wednesday, sold out) will grace the East Colfax venue.
