Chauncey Billups is officially a good sport.
The Nuggets guard is one of six finalists for the Joe Dumars Trophy, the NBA’s sportsmanship award.
Billups joined Boston’s Ray Allen, Detroit’s Antonio McDyess, Golden State’s Ronny Turiaf, San Antonio’s Michael Finley and Washington’s Antawn Jamison as finalists.
The award, according to the NBA, “reflects the ideals of sportsmanship — ethical behavior, fair play and integrity — in amateur and professional basketball, a key focus of the league’s NBA Cares program efforts.”
“He’s very deserving,” Denver coach George Karl said of Billups. It’s pretty cool.”
Going green.
The Nuggets wore green uniforms Thursday — and will again Saturday — in efforts to promote the NBA’s “Green Week,” a campaign to promote awareness for protecting the environment.
Last month, the environmentally conscious Karl addressed the attendees of the Sustainable Opportunity Summit at the Colorado Convention Center.
“I’m excited about going green — I’m a go-guy, a liberal, crazy guy,” Karl said. “I think it’s a great statement by the league, and Kroenke Sports Enterprises has done a pretty good job with the building and some of their corporate sponsorships. I think they’re pretty ahead of the curve.”
The Nuggets were green from head-to-toe, though, “I don’t know about the shoes,” Karl said before tip- off. “I just saw Chris Andersen and that was crazy.”
Indeed, the Birdman wore all-green Nike hightops with tall green socks all the way up to his knees.
