A 56-year-old Denver man has been charged in an 11-year-old sex-assault case.
David Lee Mackey is accused of breaking into a home in the 3400 block of Milwaukee Street and sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman at gunpoint. The crime happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 26, 1998.
The case was recently reviewed as part of the Cold Case Project, leading to the arrest and charging of Mackey, the Denver district attorney’s office said today in a media release.
Mackey is charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of aggravated sexual assault, all felonies.
He remains in custody in the Denver County Jail, and his bail was set at $100,000.
Detectives with the Denver Police Department and the department’s Crime Laboratory led the renewed investigation.
Mackey is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
