DENVER—The acting director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission has been appointed the agency’s next director.

David Neslin was appointed by Department of Natural Resources Executive Director Harris Sherman. Neslin had been acting director since November 2007.

Neslin says he looks forward to developing oil and gas resources while protecting the environment.

Last year the commission issued more than 8,000 drilling permits, roughly 10 times more than it issued in 1999. In the past year, it also worked on an extensive update of oil and gas regulations.
