Getting your player ready...

With all the concern over the transmittal of invasive aquatic species such as whirling disease through soft-sole materials such as felt, Bozeman- based Simms offers a solution with its RiverTread boot. Made in partnership with Vibram, maker of boot soles for 70 years, Simms has a tri-star tread that boasts a unique gripping feature.

Dave Kumlien, executive director of the Whirling Disease Foundation, touts it for its potent gripping qualities, a potent development considering Simms has pledged a separation from felt by 2010. Trout Unlimited has called for an end to felt by 2011. Available in shops that carry Simms products, RiverTread also offers an optional metal cleat.
