A public official in Larimer County has been threatened by an anonymous caller who said he will kill the official with a “1,000-yard shot just for the fun of it.”

Fort Collins police today declined to identify the target but said that three threats were made between 9:54 p.m. and 10:34 p.m. on Saturday March 28 from a man calling dispatchers from a pay phone.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the caller.

In the call, the man tells a Fort Collins police dispatcher that “I have to do it…it’ll be long range.”

“The hit – I won’t take money for it – it’ll be because I’ve been trained and it’s good practice. Long range. You’ve been warned. You’ve been told.”

The man, who sounds to be in his 50s or 60s, then goes into the specifics of what kind of ammunition he’ll use.

He then hangs up.

In the second call, he speaks briefly.

“I’m doin’ at a 1000 yards just for the fun of it. A ghost from the past.”

The dispatcher says, “I’m sorry sir, can you say that again please.”

The caller hangs up.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fort Collins Police Detective Tracy at 970-221-6582 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or .
