The second of two annual Colorado High School Activities Association board of control meetings is today in Aurora. Here are top proposals to be heard:
* The CHSAA executive committee proposes an across-the-board 10 percent reduction in the number of regular-season games to help defray costs in the current economy.
* Among multiple proposals by the basketball committee, all Class 4A first-round games will be played at the higher seed, but all second- round and Sweet 16 games will be played at the home site of the four No. 1 seeds; and in Class 5A, all first-, second-round and Sweet 16 games will be played at the higher seeds (with a minimum seating requirement to host).
* The Centennial League proposes to eliminate the CHSAA’s Sunday contact rule and replace it with a school-determined day off each week.
* The Centennial and Frontier leagues propose to increase the number of regular-season games a baseball team can play from 19 to 22. The Centennial proposal is for varsity teams only; the Frontier’s is for all levels. The Frontier also seeks an increase in baseball innings allowed for players and an increase in the pitching limitations to correspond to its game proposal.
* The Centennial proposes an increase in games for softball and a corresponding increase in innings for each player. The games would match up with the baseball proposal to keep each sport equitable.
* The executive committee proposes a change in the state calendar that would place CHSAA on the National Federation calendar. The only impact the change will have is with fall sports starting dates, and that will not occur until the 2013-14 school year. Starting dates for the next five years will not change and it puts the organization on the same calendar as most bordering states, allowing greater scheduling flexibility to the in-state schools that depend on games with other states.
* The Western Slope League proposes a change in the predetermined site of the 2A and/or 3A football championship game should two teams from the Western Slope be involved. If there are two teams from west of the Continental Divide in the championship game, that game site would be Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.
* The Western Slope proposes a third classification of girls tennis.
