COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Colorado Springs-based Christian ministry has fired a worker accused of soliciting sex from a minor via the Internet.
Focus on the Family spokesman Gary Schneeberger says 42-year-old Juan Alberto Ovalle was fired Thursday after he was formally charged with criminal attempted sexual assault on a child and Internet luring of a child.
Ovalle had worked for Focus on the Family since 2003 as a Spanish-language translator of radio broadcasts and other programs.
Authorities say Ovalle was arrested April 3 when he drove to Lakewood to meet someone he thought was a girl under age 15. He allegedly started chatting online April 2 with the person, who was an undercover officer.
A phone number for Ovalle couldn’t be found and it’s not clear if he has an attorney.
