DENVER—A Denver teenager has been hospitalized after an accident left him impaled by a portion of a metal grate.

Denver Fire Department spokesman Lt. Phil Champagne says the 13-year-old boy was standing on a grate over a window well at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when the grate gave way.

The boy plunged about six feet down the well and a piece of the grate impaled one of his legs.

Fire crews cut the metal and freed the boy from the window well.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, but his name and condition have not been released.
