MARION, Ill.—The southern Illinois brother of a teacher killed during the massacre at Colorado’s Columbine High School a decade ago says his sibling’s legacy is that he brought the family closer.
Don Sanders’ brother, Dave Sanders, was killed along with a dozen students in the April 1999 rampage at the Littleton, Colo., school. The gunmen, students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, committed suicide.
Dave Sanders was hailed as a hero for shepherding students out of the cafeteria and away from the gunmen. He was shot in a hallway as he fled.
In his home near Lake of Egypt near Marion, Don Sanders says his brother’s selflessness didn’t surprise him. He says that’s how his brother was raised.
