A Lakewood High School substitute teacher faces up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to sex assault on a 17-year-old female student.
Jon William McCarthy, 32, pled guilty today in Jefferson County District Court to one count of sexual assault of a child in a pattern of conduct, and three counts of stalking. All four counts are felonies.
McCarthy’s relationship with the Lakewood student occurred between October 2006 and October 2007, said a news release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. During that time McCarthy was a security guard and student teacher for the school. He later became a substitute teacher and track coach.
He was arrested last May when a student teacher notified her supervisor that she overheard students discussing the relationship.
McCarthy will be sentenced July 31. Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation will follow McCarthy’s assigned jail term.
